This Ain’t Your Dad’s iTunes…
I feel the need to voice my opinion on something that I observed today- an observation that I’m sure countless people have made before me.
My observation was this: There are some bands that all (self-proclaimed) rock enthusiasts must have a familiarity with, or at least understand to some degree where they fit in the spectrum of rock n roll music. And some (if not many) of these bands are a little difficult to really enjoy for certain people, for one reason or another. Even Nirvana can get a little bit tough to love after a while (I know, believe me, that was tough to write).
But one band that certainly does not fit into this category of “bitter-yet-neccissary rock legend” is Led Zeppelin. Deserving of all the pomp and reverence it usually receives, this household name covers nearly every sub-genre one can hope to find within rock music, and does it well. That means we can actually keep listening without wondering why we have to, and it also explains why our dads liked them so much, and always smile when they stumble across them in our iTunes. It’s because they can again hope that our generation has not lost its palate for truly good music.
